This video is outstanding, and like it says on the Str8buttah wikipedia page, these guys are late 90′s/early 00′s rap.
There’s definitely a link. The cadence and rhymes have that sort of feel. Not as modern as what’s coming out now in ’11. This tune, Monkey See, Monkey Do, is good, but not exceptional. But the video is. It’s just an artistic tour-de-force with non-stop cuts and very cool graphics. More of a success showpiece than bringing the viewer through a cohesive narrative. So, unfortunately, it proves that high production and artistic value doesn’t necessarily translate onscreen when the song itself just doesn’t stand out. It just sounds like a decent, run-of-the-mill US hiphop tune. If the tune were unbelieveable, it would have carried the vid through.
